Summary
Mycoplasma, which causes respiratory infection in humans, is mainly mycoplasma pneumoniae, which is the smallest free living microorganism (150~300 nm), which can grow and reproduce in medium without cell. The mycoplasma pneumoniae is transmitted by air through the mouth and nasal secretions, which can cause sporadic or small epidemics. The incubation period of mycoplasma pneumoniae infection is 14 to 21 days, most of which are slow, and about 1/3 to 1/2 asymptomatic, only detected when X-ray fluoroscopy is performed. 1. Fingertip whole blood and venous whole blood should be used immediately after being sampled.
2. According to standard techniques collect sterile serum sample. Inactivated serum is not available. It is not recommended to use lipemia, turbid or contaminated serum. Serum containing precipitate may lead to inconsistent result. Clarification shall be performed before testing these specimens.
3. With standard venous blood sampling process, collect whole blood sample in a tube with any of the anticoagulants (EDTA, heparin sodium or sodium citrate).
4. Serum or plasma sample can be kept refrigerated at 2-8℃ for 3 days and cryopreservation below -15°C for 3 months, if it is not used immediately after being sampled.
